Pia desideria, emblemata illustrata : manuscript, [between 1725 and 1750].

Although the manuscript is entitled "Pia Desideria" and the title page drawing of a flaming heart is copied from Herman Hugo, this manuscript is not a copy of Hugo's book. The author, Robert Fosse, "religiosus Instituti Minoritici de Observantia", follows the outline and the arrangement of Hugo's "Pia Desideria" and uses the prose text, but the poems are omitted. The prose chapters are each followed by an expanded longer section, apparently of Fosse's own composition, thus creating a new book in which about one-fourth of the text is taken from Hugo's work. The manuscript has an autograph dedication to another member of the Order, Father Joannes Maesmans. Plates from Hugo's "Pia Desideria" have been bound in.

1 v. (637 leaves) : ill. ; 16 cm.
